“Sisterhood” is the descriptor coined by most of our attendees to capture the essence of Digital Diversity Network’s inaugural Women of Color in Technology Luncheon on Wednesday, May 25th. Themed, Our Presence, Our Power, this intimate, invitation-only event was hosted by HBO in an elegant setting overlooking New York City’s Bryant Park.
Digital Diversity Network launched the Women of Color in Technology Luncheon to celebrate the contributions of women from diverse backgrounds, passions and pursuits in the industry as well as to educate, empower and inspire positive action to advance the future for women of color in the Innovation Economy.
The praise has been effusive about this platform for women of color in tech to “bring their full selves into a room” and to make meaningful connections—personally and professionally–with approximately 100 powerful industry peers.
Contributing to the “sisterhood” aura was the “inspiring, honest, engaging and unfiltered” conversation led by moderator, Joya Dass, TV anchor and part of the SELF MADE Launch team. Panelists included: Aisha Bowe, co-founder & CEO, STEMBoard; Erica Duignan Minnihan, managing partner & head of deal flow, 1000 Angels; Reshma Gopaldas, creative video producer & content creator, SheKnows Media; Lisa Morales-Hellebo, CEO & Co-founder, REFASHIOND; and Christina Morillo, Information Security/Access Management architect & co-founder WOCinTech Chat.
Each of these women shared their stories; lessons learned; and how they are currently reinventing the tech industry. While their backgrounds, expertise, and career paths are varied, all agreed that women of color should support and uplift one another; dare to question the status quo; initiate the change they want to see; and to make their presence known.
The Women of Color in Technology Luncheon would not have been possible without the generous support and embrace of our Presenting Sponsor, HBO, and our Bronze Sponsor, Carlsen Resources, Inc.
